Special Unveiling in the Sixth Street Museum District

The Sixth Street Museum District will celebrate Black History Month, "Generations Strong: Inspiring African Americans" with special events and programs. 
 
The celebration will kick-off with the second installation of Faces of Eureka on February 2 at 11 a.m. at the Eureka School. This event will feature the addition of seven Eureka students to the banner exhibition. Light refreshments will be served. Other events for the month will include:
 
February 10 and 17           10:00 a.m.                   Storytime with a Soldier
                                                                                    African American Military History Museum
                                                                                    305 E. 6th Street
 A military veteran will read a themed book highlighting an inspiring African American to children ages Pre-K through 3rd grade.  Students will also tour the museum.  Reservations for this event are required.

February 24                       11:00 a.m.                    Celebrating the Life of Mr. Alvin Eaton
                                                                                    African American Military History Museum
                                                                                    305 E. 6th Street
Alvin Eaton left behind a legacy of service to his country and community.  Eaton was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War.  He was also a leader in the restoration of the East Sixth Street USO, now home to the African American Military History Museum.  He served the Hattiesburg Community through his career at both WDAM and the City of Hattiesburg, and through his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, Forrest County NAACP and the Hattiesburg Chamber of Commerce.  Refreshments will be served.
 
Special tours of Sixth Street Museum attractions are available for groups.  Please call 601-450-1942 to book your reservation.
